We left Louisville and made brief stops at
Fort Knox and Mammoth Cave

Fort Knox
The gold depository, or "Bullion Bldg"

The gold depository at Fort Knox is a few hundred yards from the highway and the
gate to the fort is a 1/4 mile further. The cameras on the depository obviously caught
us taking pictures, and when we arrived at the gate the guard was going crazy.

Unfortunately, we couldn't understand a word he was saying and responded with,
"Yeah, we took some pictures." This did not help, but the next person we
spoke to was sane and spoke a flavor of English we understood.

Apparently, anyone with a drivers license can drive through the gate and wander around the base
(which is primarily a weapons dump), but it is a violation of federal law to photograph the gate.

Ranger

At Mammoth Cave we felt much more secure with the
young ranger in the big hat than the lunatic at the gate.

The cave was too dark and too mammoth to photograph effectively.
