LONGSHENG

Dragon Spine Rice Terraces

The terraced fields are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountain top,
between 600 m to 800 m above sea level.  A coiling terrace line that starts from the mountain
foot up to the mountain top divides the mountain into layers of water in spring, layers
of green rice shoots in summer, layers of rice in fall, and layers of frost in winter.
The terraced fields were mostly built about 650 years ago.

Yao women wear brightly colored collarless blouses and knee length skirts.
Beauty is largely determined by the length of their hair which is wound into a tight bun.

The Zhuang women of Longsheng wear black pants with light tops.  They are available
to carry loads up the steep paths to the village. Women over sixty wrap their hair with a towel.
