Most houses are brightly colored and families
are sometimes identified
by the color of their house. There
is also a connection between the
color and specific saints.
Many of the people ride single-cylinder
motorbikes, sometimes with
three and four riders. Gasoline
is about $7.00 per gallon and gas stations
are sparse. Below right is a makeshift
gas station.
It is a violation of federal law to give
children candy or money to discourage begging.
School is mandatory for all children and
contributions to schools are encouraged.
